Kanungu police are investigating a suspected suicide case involving a 40-year-old man, Arthur Nahurira, a worker at the Coca-Cola depot in Kihihi Town Council. Nahurira, originally from Kigango Cell, Karuhembe Parish in Kebisoni Sub-county, Rukungiri District, was reported missing on January 30, 2025.

According to reports, he disappeared from his home in Kasiro Cell, Town Ward, Kihihi Town Council, at around 10:40 PM. Concerned about his whereabouts, his brother, Ndwana Saulo, filed a missing person report at Kihihi Police Station on February 1, 2025. It was later discovered that Nahurira had sent a farewell message to his aunt, Kiconco Edith, via her phone.

On the morning of February 5, 2025, at around 9:00 AM, residents noticed a foul smell coming from a nearby bush and discovered Nahurira’s decomposing body. At the scene, police found a Coca-Cola bottle containing poison and a white polythene bag with a substance identified as Forodan, which he is suspected to have ingested.

The police were notified, and officers visited the scene to document the findings. The body was later transported to Kihihi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination. Nahurira was found wearing black trousers, brown shoes, grey socks, and a white sweater.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.
