Police in Bushenyi District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a student from Kampala International University.
The incident occurred on the night of February 25, 2024, at an unspecified time, in Cell D Ishaka Division, Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Opirin Boniface, a first-semester student at KIU’s School of Engineering.
The deceased resided in Jolly Kamukama Estates Hostels in Cell D Ishaka, Bushenyi District.
Reports indicate that around 12:30 AM on February 25, 2024, another student residing in the same hostel went to dispose of dirty water in the bathroom and discovered the deceased hanging from a rope.
Upon making this discovery, the student promptly alerted other residents, who in turn informed the hostel owner and subsequently contacted the police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that two packets of rat poison were discovered in the deceased’s bag inside his room. Additionally, he was found to have an identity card from the Internal Security Organisation.
The body has been transported to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
