The retired Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt Rev. Patrick Tugume Tusingwire, has called on residents and local leaders of Kebisoni Town Council in Rukungiri District to urgently demand for designated cemetery land to ensure proper burials and protect graves from being affected by future infrastructure developments.

He made the appeal on April 21, 2026, during a sermon at the thanksgiving and 86th birthday celebration of Lilian Kamashamba Karani held in Kiborogota Cell, Northern Ward.

The Bishop expressed concern over the lack of planned public burial grounds, warning that the absence of designated cemeteries could lead to graves being disrupted during road construction and other development projects. He also noted that poor planning of community infrastructure, including issues such as land for tree planting, reflects gaps in local development planning, and urged leaders to act early to safeguard dignity for the dead.

The Priest of Rwakirungura Church of Uganda Parish in Kyamakanda Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, also encouraged the public to avoid anger, stressing that it negatively affects health and shortens lifespan. He attributed Lilian Kamashamba Karani’s longevity to a life of peace and contentment.

Celebrating her 86th birthday, Lilian Kamashamba Karani expressed gratitude to God for life, good health, and a supportive family. She thanked those who attended the celebration and shared testimony about her journey and blessings.

Her eldest son, Richard Biryomumaisho Karani, appreciated his mother for her care and love, noting that the celebration was an important moment for the family to honor and give thanks while she is still alive.

Lilian Kamashamba Karani is blessed with eight children and more than 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
