Ms. Aidah Gumisiriza, the Inspector of Schools for Rukungiri District, encouraged parents to consider enrolling their underperforming students in vocational training, believing they have the potential to acquire skills and succeed in the future.
She delivered this message on Sunday, February 25th, 2024, during the Thanksgiving service and award ceremony for the top performers in the recent Primary Leaving Examinations at Kishonga Primary School in Rubanga Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District.
Expressing dissatisfaction with teachers for the failure of some students, Aidah Gumisiriza noted that students in the fourth grade and those who received ungraded marks miss out on government funds. She urged parents not to neglect their underperforming children but to consider further studies in vocational skills.
Rev. Isaac Muriisa, the Parish Priest of Kishonga Church of Uganda, thanked God for the school’s excellence and praised parents and teachers for breaking the four-year streak without any first-grade achievers. He emphasized that a successful school strengthens the founding church.
Matento Swaibu, the Chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Kishonga Primary School, applauded the cooperation between parents and staff, which led to the school’s success. He encouraged current students to maintain their commitment to excellence.
Turyahabwe Kenneth Rwabutegye, the head teacher of Kishonga Primary School, attributed the success to the discipline of the students and the teamwork among staff members. He expressed optimism for improvement in the coming year, considering the school’s increased enrollment.
Students Akanyijuka Disan and Kirabo Saviour, who both scored first grades, credited their success to determination and the support of caring teachers. They expressed their dedication to pursuing careers in medicine to help save lives.
In total, 51 candidates took the Primary Leaving Examinations last year. Among them, two achieved first grade, seventeen received second grade, twenty-three obtained third grade, and nine attained fourth grade. The two students who scored first grade were rewarded with a mattress, a metallic case, a dozen books, and pens.
