The upgrade of Kisoro old market, which was part of the MATIP project, has been temporarily halted according to the Kisoro Municipal Town Clerk, Haruna Kamba.

Kamba says that the responsible ministry has not provided a clear reason for the suspension but informed him that all beneficiary municipalities under the MATIP project phase three will need to wait until further notice.

Kamba also mentioned that the advertisement seeking contractors for the construction was also suspended on June 13th, 2023.

When asked about the potential involvement of corruption leading to the halt, Kamba emphasized that the government is committed to its programs aimed at generating wealth through production and employment opportunities for citizens.

He added that the petition submitted to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit contains trivial issues that the government cannot prioritize. Nevertheless, a committee will be established to investigate the concerns raised in the petition.
