A 17-year-old student of Kihanda Technical School has died in a tragic road accident that occurred at Rugando Trading Centre along the Kihanda-Katete road in Kanungu District.
The deceased, identified as Ainebyona Lazarus, was reportedly a passenger on a motor vehicle carrying fellow students returning from a camping trip. It is alleged that he fell off the moving vehicle and died instantly.
Police spokesperson for Kigezi region, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, stating that the scene was visited by PC Matanda, and the body of the deceased was taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination.
The motor vehicle involved in the accident is currently unknown and remains at large along with its driver. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Authorities have urged the public, especially drivers, to prioritize the safety of passengers to avoid such tragic incidents.
