Christians have been called upon to unite, give wholeheartedly, and actively participate in the expansion of the Church during a fundraising ceremony held at St. Peter’s Church of Uganda, Kashenyi Parish in the North Kigezi Diocese.

The event was graced by Bishop Dan Zoreka of Kinkiizi Diocese, who emphasized the importance of gratitude and prioritizing God in all aspects of life. He encouraged Christians not to engage with church activities only in times of trouble but to continually support the work of God with the resources He has given them.

Bishop Zoreka also urged believers to avoid being “mikono gamu”—those unwilling to give—and instead trust that God will provide as they commit to His work. He commended former Rujumbura County MP Fred Turyamuhweza and his family for taking the lead in the expansion project through a thanksgiving, and the bishop contributed UGX 525,000 cash as the symbolic “first brick.”

In his remarks, Turyamuhweza said the initiative is rooted in the legacy of their grandparents, who loved and served God, and that his family is fully committed to seeing the project through, regardless of the cost. He emphasized that their giving was not out of abundance but out of conviction and gratitude to God. He also appealed for a peaceful political season and urged the community to remain united.

Venerable Edson Muheirwe, Archdeacon of St. Peter’s C.O.U Kashenyi Parish, expressed gratitude for the support and pledged that all funds raised would be used transparently and effectively. He called for continued unity and prayer among the Christians to ensure the project’s completion.

Also present was Hon. Loland Kaginda, Rukungiri Municipality MP hopeful, who applauded Turyamuhweza for his service during his time in Parliament. He urged the public to separate politics from religious programs and to serve God with undivided commitment.

The fundraising drive raised UGX 12,168,000 in cash and received pledges of 690 bags of cement, marking a significant step toward the church’s expansion.
