Police in Kanungu District are investigating the brutal murder of a 30-year-old woman whose body was discovered early Saturday morning, June 28, 2025, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church playground.

The deceased, identified as Atwikirize Mackline, a resident of Mukirwa cell in Kinaaba Sub-county, was allegedly last seen on the night of June 27 after selling her pig and matooke for UGX 900,000. She reportedly used part of the money to buy clothes from Kinaaba market before heading to a local bar, where she was seen drinking with unidentified men.

According to police reports, Mackline left the bar around 11:00 p.m. in the company of the same men. Her lifeless body was later discovered by children on their way to the garden early the next morning.

Police visited the crime scene and introduced a sniffer dog, which led to the arrest of one suspect believed to have information crucial to the investigation.

A postmortem was conducted at the scene before the body was handed over to the relatives for burial.

Investigations are ongoing.
