Territorial police in Kabale are on the hunt for individuals suspected of lynching an unidentified man alleged to have broken into a shop at Nkumbura Trading Centre in Kaharo Parish, Kabale District. The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of November 4, 2024.

According to the police, the deceased, yet to be identified, was found lying dead along the road at Nkumbura Trading Centre by a passerby, Tumwesigye Edmond, around 7:30 a.m. Edmond immediately reported the discovery to the Officer in Charge (OC) of Kaharo. Preliminary investigations suggest the deceased, along with two accomplices, may have broken into two shops at the trading center. When spotted by residents, the three men attempted to flee, with two reportedly escaping. The deceased, however, was apprehended by locals and subsequently attacked.

Upon being alerted, the OC of Kaharo informed the District Police Commander (DPC) and the District Criminal Investigations Officer (CID), who, along with a team of homicide detectives, promptly visited the scene to investigate. The body was retrieved and transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem, while efforts to confirm the identity of the deceased are ongoing. Police are urging anyone with a missing family member to visit the hospital mortuary to aid in identification and allow for a proper burial.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed that investigations are underway to establish the full details of the incident.
