St. Mark High School Nyakibale in Rukungiri district is celebrating its outstanding performance in the 2023 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations. Placing third among all schools in the district, St. Mark demonstrated remarkable achievement with 31 students achieving division one and 12 students securing division two grades.

Their success is particularly noteworthy given the competitive educational environment, where neighboring institutions also excelled.

St. Charles Lwanga Seminary, also located in Nyakibale, emerged as the second in the district, with 47 students achieving division one and 5 in division two. However, it was Immaculate Heart Girls Nyakibale School that garnered the most attention, leading the district with an impressive 378 students in division one and 19 in division two.

Fortunate Akanyihayo Rukundo, the headteacher of St. Mark High School, expressed gratitude for their achievement, attributing it to divine intervention.

In an interview with our reporter after the results were released, Rukundo credited the parents for entrusting their children’s education to St. Mark High School. She pledged to maintain their commitment to academic excellence and assured continued success in the future.

It’s worth noting that all three top-performing schools in the UCE results in Rukungiri district share a common foundation, being church-founded institutions under the Kabale Diocese. This highlights the significant role played by faith-based organizations in delivering quality education and shaping the academic landscape of the region.
