The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo, has opted to drop charges of aggravated trafficking in persons against Ramathan Ndikuyeze, who holds the position of Central Division chairperson in Kisoro municipality.

Ndikuyeze also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kisoro.

The decision to withdraw the charges was presented to Judge Richard Wejuli Wabwire of the International Crimes Division by State Attorney Richard Biruvumbuki. Biruvumbuki submitted a letter dated January 15, 2024, from the DPP, conveying the discontinuation of proceedings against Ndikuyeze.

Consequently, Judge Wabwire endorsed the withdrawal and discharge of Ndikuyeze, unless he is held on other charges. Court records indicate that Ndikuyeze, represented by lawyer Evans Ochieng, resides in Cyahi village, Kisoro district.

The case stemmed from a report by George Mugisha, who reported his daughter’s disappearance to the police at Kampala Metropolitan and Nansana police station. Subsequent investigations revealed that the victim was a student at Kisoro Progressive Secondary School in senior three.
