Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the circumstances under which a fire outbreak destroyed properties worth millions of shillings.

The incident occurred on August 19, 2024, at around 11:30 PM in Ryakatakanya Cell, Kyamuhunga Town Council, Bushenyi District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, reported that the incident was reported by Aarod Mutahakana, a 30-year-old boda-boda rider from Kyamuhunga Trading Centre, Bushenyi District.

The victim has been identified as John Kahinda, a 27-year-old businessman residing in Ryakatakanya Cell, Kyamuhunga Town Council, Bushenyi District.

It is alleged that on 19/08/2024, at around 11:00 PM, the victim was boiling water in a percolator in his sitting room behind his business premises using electricity. Due to a short circuit, the percolator caught fire, which then spread throughout the room.

The fire destroyed properties in the house worth 10 million shillings, including cash amounting to 2,702,000 shillings.

According to the police, it was established that the power sparked off through the socket, leading to the fire outbreak in the sitting room, which consumed the properties in the room.
