Residents of Kibombo Cell in Nyakaina Parish and Rugongo Cell in Bugyeyo Kitojo Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District have initiated a fundraising effort for the construction of Kibombo Bridge.

The bridge, situated at the boundary between Kibombo and Rugongo Cells along the Omubakimbiri – Nkora – Kibombo road, is currently not included in the ongoing road opening project under the Sub County grader.

Realizing the importance of the bridge, the residents have decided to contribute to its construction through communal work.

Apophia Akatukunda, the Chairperson LC1 of Kibombo Cell, welcomed the initiative and highlighted the bridge’s significant benefits, including improved access to medical care for expectant mothers, better educational opportunities for students, and enhanced market access for agricultural products.

Robert Kahanda, a resident of Rugongo Cell, voiced his support for the bridge’s construction, emphasizing the reduction of drowning risks during the rainy season.

Andrew Mugarura Nkora, the Chairperson of the Construction Committee, praised the residents for their cooperation and urged them to remain resilient until the project is completed.

Raphael Bukiruro, the Secretary of the Construction Committee, encouraged supporters to stay committed and avoid making empty promises or withdrawing support for the construction.

Emmy Agaba Rubondo, the Chairperson LC3 of Buyanja Sub County, commended the residents for their proactive approach and noted that while the Sub County budget does include funds for road opening, this community-driven effort complements government initiatives and should serve as an example for others to follow.
