The territorial police in Rubanda are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Joseph Tibandekea Porter, a 20-year-old resident of Kasalaga Cell, Zigoti Sub-County, Mityana District.

The incident occurred on August 19, 2024, at approximately 0100 hours at Hamuhambo Trading Centre, Hamuhambo Ward, Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda District.

It is reported that Joseph Tibandekea was allegedly assaulted by local residents following a dispute. Two suspects, who were with the deceased, have been arrested to aid in the investigation: They include, Kakande Ibra, 20 years old, a resident of Kasalaga Cell, Zigoti Sub-County, Mityana District, and Amanyire Branson, 17 years old, a resident of Rubanga Cell, Nyabikungu Parish, Kinoni Sub-County, Mbarara District.

On 18/08/2024, around 2100 hours, the deceased, along with the two suspects and other workers, left a site in Bushura Cell and went to Hamuhambo Trading Centre for a social evening. Around midnight, a quarrel ensued between the group and unidentified locals, leading to a fight. The suspects managed to flee back to their lodging, but Joseph did not return home.

Kakande and Amanyire sought first aid at a nearby clinic. On their way back, they encountered a boda boda rider who informed them of a man being beaten along the road. They discovered that the man being beaten was Joseph, who was still alive at that time.

Police at Bunyonyi were notified, and Joseph was taken to Rugarama Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A murder case was registered at Bunyonyi Police Post and later transferred to Rubanda CPS, CRB 331/2024. A team from the Homicide Unit visited Rugarama Hospital for a postmortem and subsequently investigated the crime scene at Hamuhambo Trading Centre. Witness statements were recorded, and the two suspects remain in custody to assist with the investigation.
