Police in Sheema District are investigating a serious accident involving the Sheema District Woman Member of Parliament.
The accident occurred on August 18, 2024, at 3:00 PM in Bugongi village along the Kabwohe-Kitagata road. The vehicle involved was a silver Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, registration number UAP 656W, driven by Neli Fred, 32, a resident of Sheema District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the victims as Hon. Rosemary Nakikongoro, 59, the Woman Member of Parliament for Sheema District, and Jane Natwijuka, 47, also from Sheema District.
According to Tumusiime, the vehicle was traveling from Kabwohe towards Kitagata when the driver lost control while negotiating a corner and crashed into a pavement. The victims were transported to Kampala International Teaching Hospital in Ishaka, Bushenyi. Tumusiime indicated that the likely cause of the accident was speeding.
