Tragedy struck along the Ntungamo Kabale highway yesterday evening at approximately 6:40 PM when a fatal collision occurred between a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle and a Fuso Fighter truck, resulting in the death of one individual and leaving two others critically injured.
The deceased has been identified as Turanzomwe Rauben, a 20-year-old resident of Ahabusikano village in Muyumbu Parish, Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale District. The injured victims are Justus Ngabirano, 22, also from Ahabusikano village, and Muhereza Eriya, 20, a casual laborer from Buyango village in Kashekye Parish, Kamwezi sub-county, Rukiga District.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident unfolded at the Muhanga-Kisizi junction, where the Fuso truck, carrying a load of green tea leaves, failed to yield right of way to the oncoming motorcycle ridden by Turanzomwe. The collision left all three occupants of the motorcycle unconscious, with the Fuso truck driver fleeing the scene hastily, leaving the victims in dire need of medical attention.
Authorities suspect reckless driving on the part of the Fuso truck driver as the primary cause of the accident.
