Tragedy struck along the Ntungamo Kabale highway yesterday evening at approximately 6:40 PM when a fatal collision occurred between a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle and a Fuso Fighter truck, resulting in the death of one individual and leaving two others critically injured.

The deceased has been identified as Turanzomwe Rauben, a 20-year-old resident of Ahabusikano village in Muyumbu Parish, Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale District. The injured victims are Justus Ngabirano, 22, also from Ahabusikano village, and Muhereza Eriya, 20, a casual laborer from Buyango village in Kashekye Parish, Kamwezi sub-county, Rukiga District.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident unfolded at the Muhanga-Kisizi junction, where the Fuso truck, carrying a load of green tea leaves, failed to yield right of way to the oncoming motorcycle ridden by Turanzomwe. The collision left all three occupants of the motorcycle unconscious, with the Fuso truck driver fleeing the scene hastily, leaving the victims in dire need of medical attention.

Authorities suspect reckless driving on the part of the Fuso truck driver as the primary cause of the accident.

Following the incident, a team from the traffic department and integrated highway promptly responded to the scene. They conducted a thorough investigation, gathering evidence and sketching a plan of the accident site.

The injured victims were swiftly transported to Kabale Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Unfortunately, Turanzomwe succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.

Police have initiated efforts to locate and apprehend the driver of the Fuso truck, along with impounding the vehicle for further investigation. Additionally, the body of the deceased has been withheld pending a postmortem examination.
