The leaders of Rukungiri district have expressed their appreciation for the commendable efforts made by the North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop in revitalizing Church of Uganda schools, particularly Makobole High School.
Established in 1962, Makobole High School, a government-aided boys’ boarding secondary school, had been grappling with various challenges such as low student numbers and a decline in academic performance.
Mayor Charlse Makuru of Rukungiri municipality expressed his emotional response to witnessing the decline of a historically significant institution like Makobole. However, he is now delighted to observe parents responding to the bishop’s initiative by re-enrolling their children in the school, thus contributing to its restoration of former glory.
Mayor Makuru highlighted the importance of Makobole High School, citing its role in educating individuals who have assumed important positions across the country. Consequently, the Rukungiri municipality council passed a resolution to seek funding for the school’s rehabilitation, a request that was accepted by the government and supported by local members of parliament.
Michal Byarugaba, a district councilor for the western division, echoed similar sentiments, praising the bishop for his dedication to revitalizing Makobole High School. Byarugaba urged parents to enroll their children in Makobole High School, emphasizing that the government has allocated funds for its renovation and rehabilitation.
Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of North Kigezi Diocese shared positive news regarding the impact of efforts to revamp Church of Uganda schools, particularly Makobole High School. He announced that as of February 6, 2024, over 114 students have been admitted to senior one, marking a significant milestone for the school. Additionally, more than 250 students have been admitted to Kinyasano Girls’ School.
Head Teacher Sabiti Epaphras affirmed the commitment of Makobole High School administrators to improve its academic performance in light of increased enrollment. They are determined to work diligently towards restoring Makobole’s reputation for excellence.
