The Ministry of Works and Transport is set to start processing and issuing driving permits to drivers in Kanungu and neighboring districts in Kigezi and Ankole regions according to ASP Andrew Muyambi the O/C traffic Kanungu district central police station.
He revealed that this activity will be conducted in Kanungu district from Monday 19th-24June 2023 to give out licenses to all motorists and drivers who have been fully equipped with road safety and driving trainings as one way of bringing services nearer to people.
According to ASP Muyambi, this came after boda boda leaders wrote to the ministry asking to help the get driving licenses.
He said that a driving permit is one of the important documents that every driver on the road should have and asked all motorists to use this chance to get them.
Nice Turyamureba, the Kinkiizi East Boda Boda Association chairperson in Kanungu district thanked the Ministry of Works and Transport for considering them following the letter they wrote on 3rd March 2023 requesting them to bring services nearer.
He said that the officials will be issuing new and renewing expired driving permits and even upgrading classes at an affordable price.
The permits will be both for boda boda cyclists and other motorists.
