Leaders at Parish Councils and senior church leadership in Christ the King Parish, Rukungiri Municipality, have been urged to focus on key areas of community development and spiritual growth to strengthen the Church and improve the welfare of Christians.

The call was made by Rev Fr Vianney Byaruhanga while addressing newly elected leaders of the Christ the King Parish Council.

Fr Vianney emphasized the importance of financial inclusion and sustainability, urging leaders to encourage Christians to engage in income-generating projects that can support the Church amid rising poverty levels.

He also stressed the need for political discipline and integrity, calling on parishioners to maintain peace, discipline, and ethical behavior, and to avoid being misled by money.

The parish priest further encouraged leaders to mobilize Christians to support Church development initiatives such as the Bishop’s Annual Fund (BAAF).

Fr Vianney asked council members to promote active participation in the Church’s mission through small Christian communities, support local seminaries, and advocate for environmental stewardship by engaging local councils on environmental concerns.

He also highlighted the need to support the youth by encouraging them to embrace technology and engage in productive economic activities.

Speaking after his election, Karyaija Zepha called on fellow leaders to promote self-reliance and moral leadership. He urged council members to lead with integrity, use words that promote harmony, and avoid actions that create division among Christians.

Karyaija Zepha was elected Chairperson of the Christ the King Parish Council. Other elected leaders include Kemigisha Mary Mariet as Vice Chairperson, Vian Twinomuhwezi as Secretary, and Baguma Richard as Treasurer.

Additional leaders were elected to head various departments including communities, finance, liturgy and liturgical music, socio-economic development, lay apostolate, social communication, education, land, vocations, and Catholic welfare.
