A devastating landslide in Mayengo Village, Kiniogo Ward, Kabale District, tragically resulted in the loss of property valued at over 300 million shillings Monday afternoon.

Dan Niwamanya, a prominent local businessman and owner of the affected establishment situated along the Kabale-Katuna road, recounted the terrifying events that unfolded around 2:00 pm. All structures, including his retail shop inventory, succumbed to the calamity.

Niwamanya disclosed that he had invested approximately 80 million shillings in his business and an additional 150 million shillings in constructing the building.

In a desperate plea for assistance, Niwamanya urged the government to provide support as the disaster had destroyed his sole source of livelihood.

Following the incident, Katuna Town Council’s Town Clerk, Christmas Byarugaba, promptly visited the site and confirmed that there were no casualties from the landslide. However, Byarugaba stressed the importance of precautionary measures, advising residents with properties adjacent to the affected area to evacuate.
