Uganda Prisons has announced the allocation of 6 acres of land to Rukungiri Municipal Council on Monday, April 8, 2024, for the establishment of a lorry park and cemetery.

The designated land is situated opposite the Aids Support Organization (TASO) Rukungiri, adjacent to Rukungiri Revival Mission Church in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

Mr. Magomu Wilson, the Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Deputy Director of Production and Engineering explained that they opted to share their land, as it was initially received from the Municipal Council. Both entities are public institutions engaged in development partnerships.

Mayor Charles Makuru of Rukungiri Municipal Council emphasized their commitment to creating a modern lorry park to address the growing congestion of lorries along the Rukungiri-Kihiihi highway. He also revealed plans to allocate one acre for a cemetery to accommodate unclaimed bodies and provide public hire for disadvantaged individuals to generate revenue.

Lion MJF Tagobya Prosper, the Deputy Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipal Council, praised Uganda Prisons for their contribution, highlighting its potential to support the town’s development plans. He proposed presenting the proposal in the upcoming Council meeting to allocate funds for construction.
