Police in Rukungiri have arrested a 40-year-old man, Titus Kusiima, a resident of Kinyamahwa Cell, Kinyamahwa Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District, after he was accused of sexually abusing his two biological daughters.
The victims, aged 7 and 12, whose identities have been withheld because they are minors, are said to have suffered repeated abuse by their father. The children have been living with him since their mother reportedly separated from him and left them in his care.
The case came to light on April 14, 2026, at around 3:00 pm when a concerned resident noticed the younger girl walking with difficulty and became suspicious. When questioned, the child reportedly disclosed the alleged abuse, which prompted immediate intervention by the community.
Kinyamahwa Parish councillor Atanansi Atuheire, in a phone interview with our news reporter on April 16, stated that the case is under investigation and emphasized the need for continued community vigilance to protect children, especially those living in vulnerable home situations.
Another resident, Rovence Korugyegye, said the children had confided in members of the community, alleging ongoing abuse by their father over a long period. Community members further reported that they became more concerned after noticing suspicious signs, which led them to intervene. She added that on Wednesday, April 15, the two children were taken for medical check-ups, and the 7-year-old girl was found to be HIV positive, with the infection suspected to have been contracted from her father.
The suspect is currently detained at Rukungiri Central Police Station. By press time, police had not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
