Police in Rukungiri is holding a couple over the death of their 7-month-old child
Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesman has identified the couple in custody as Naturinda Annah 18, and Mbangirwe Nicholas both residents of Rugarama village, Nyaburere Parish, Bugangari sub county in Rukungiri district
The two are parents to Owakubariho Darius, a 7 month old toddler who was mysteriously strangled to death on 16th June 2022
Maate explains that the mother to the deceased who was preparing supper on the fateful evening had rested her baby in the bedroom as she attended to other domestic chores.
She was shocked on discovering that the baby had disappeared when supper got ready
She reportedly raised an alarm that attracted a number of residents who tried to search for the missing toddler but in vain
According to Maate, Mbangirwe Nicholas the father of the missing child reported the incident at Bugangari Police station and a case of disappearance was recorded
The body of the missing child was discovered the next day on the 17th June 2022 at around 11:00AM , wrapped in a Kitenge cloth belonging to the mother at an approximated distance of around 10 meters from the home of the parents.
The scene of crime was visited and documented, by a team of Police officers, the body was taken to Rwakabengo health center III for Postmortem to ascertain the actual cause of death.
The body was found with multiple injuries around all parts a shaky neck , was also observed which could have been caused by strangulation.
