Police of Rwizi Region has today   intercepted two suspected motor vehicle thieves identified as  Issa Matovu and Mukiibi Joseph along the Mbarara Northern bypass in Mbarara City with motor vehicle registration number UAX 260G, a FUSO Fighter that was stolen from Nyarushanje Ngarama cell Rukungiri District at the home of Mr. Byamugisha Deus

The Rwizi region Police spokesperson ASP Samson Kasasira says  the vehichle was tracked  right from Rukungiri through  intelligence and CCTV cameras  and later intercepted in Mbarara City headed to Greater Masaska Region

Kasasira explains that during the pursuit of the assailants , an escort car  used by the suspected thieves registration number UAR 611R,  a Toyota Townace got involved in an accident injuring the occupant Issa Matovu who was trying to flee, to evade arrest and he is admitted at Mbarara regional referral hospital nursing injuries

 The other suspect identified as Mukiibi Joseph who was driving the stolen motor vehicle and  also trying to flee ,  was intercepted  by a mob that was  awakened by gun shots  discharge by police in the pursuit

The mob according to Kasasira left the suspect with injuries  before he was  rescued by police and also admitted at Mbarara regional referral hospital  before passing on this afternoon .

The two motor vehicles are parked at the police yard of CPS Mbarara.

Kasasira says the  two are alleged to be part of a big racket of thugs that steal motor vehicles and move them a cross borders   including the recently recovered motor vehicle UAZ095Q FUSO yellow in colour from Tanzania that is yet to be cleared by the authorities of Tanzania

The other motor vehicles still missing include UBF835X Isuzu Forward white in colour stolen on the 29/05/2022 from Bushenyi,UAY122Q Forward white in color stolen on the 05/11/2019 stolen from Mbarara City,UBF995C Forward stolen on the 18/04/2022 from Rukungiri district and UAX997W Fuso white in color stolen from Mbarara district on the 19/05/2022.

Kasasira says inquiries into the matter continue to have the missing vehicles recovered.
