All primary schools in Buyanja Sub County on Wednesday received pre-PLE exams from the Sub County Council in preparation for the PLE.

Aagaba Emmy Rubondo, the LC3 Chairperson for Buyanja Sub County, said that as Sub County authorities, they do this to prepare candidates for the final exams, asserting that it is one way of giving back to the community.

Rubondo hailed teachers for the work done since the year began, despite the recent industrial action.

Rubondo revealed that the recent industrial action has led to an increase in the school dropout rate, noting that most learners have up to now not reported back after the action.

He, in this regard, challenged the government to respond to teachers’ requests since these Ugandans do great work.

Robert Gumisiriza, the head teacher of Kagati Primary School, who doubles as the Chairperson of Buyanja Sub County Head Teachers’ Association, hailed the Council of Buyanja Sub County for the academic support, noting that these pre-PLE exams may prepare candidates for PLE since the setting is at the PLE level.

He said that despite the recent teachers’ industrial action, most candidates in Buyanja Sub County are prepared enough for the final exams, urging parents to equip their children with the necessary requirements like pens, pencils, mathematical sets, and lunch, creating a good environment for candidates to do their exams and excel.

He added that since the Sub County Council is supportive of education, they are going to work hard for the success of their candidates.

He said that in the remaining days to PLE, they are going to do whatever it takes to have their candidates prepared for the exams.

However, Robert revealed that they, as head teachers, are grappling with challenges such as a lack of enough seats, buildings, teachers, among other challenges.

He said that most parents are not cooperative in the education of their children, yet they are mandated to support their children’s education.

About challenges in schools, Rubondo urged parents to be cooperative and support the education of their children.
