Over 300 Christians were confirmed into the Anglican faith today in a spiritually uplifting service held at Kitunga Church of Uganda, Kitunga Parish in Kajara County, Ntungamo District. The confirmation ceremony was presided over by the Bishop of South Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe, who urged Christians to remain steadfast in prayer and never tire of doing good if they are to live meaningful and successful lives.
Coinciding with global Father’s Day celebrations, Bishop Ahibisibwe used the opportunity to call on fathers to lead spiritually in their homes. “Fathers must pray for their children and wives and take their rightful positions in the family as role models,” the Bishop emphasized, urging men to be pillars of harmony and discipline.
In his sermon, Bishop Ahibisibwe also condemned irresponsible parenting, criticizing those who waste family resources on leisure activities while neglecting the essential needs of their children. He warned that such behavior often drives children into vices like theft, drug abuse, and risky sexual behaviors that can lead to HIV and unplanned pregnancies.
The service was also marked by a special tribute to Rt. Rev. Cranmer Mwesigwa, who officially retired after serving 14 years as Archdeacon of Kitunga Parish and two years as Dean of South Ankole Diocese. Bishop Ahibisibwe commended him for his unwavering service, noting that under his leadership, Kitunga Parish consistently excelled in tithes and offertory contributions within the diocese.
Mrs. Lilian Ahibisibwe, the Bishop’s wife, delivered a powerful message to the youth, especially girls, advising them to resist material temptations from strangers and avoid peer pressure that could lead them into destructive habits like drug abuse and alcoholism. She encouraged children to focus on their studies, support their families, and uphold good morals as future leaders.
Preaching from Galatians 6:9, the retiring Rev. Cranmer Mwesigwa reminded Christians to “never grow weary of doing good,” assuring them that with perseverance and faith, the rewards of righteousness and peace will follow.
The confirmation service was not only a spiritual milestone for the new communicants but also a moment of reflection, leadership transition, and renewed commitment to Christian values among the faithful in South Ankole Diocese.
