Parents have been encouraged to actively support the development of their children’s schools and to elect leaders who genuinely respond to the needs of the people. This call was made by Venerable Andrew Kananura Kanyonyi, Archdeacon of Kakinga Archdeaconry, during a fundraising ceremony held at Kigiro Primary School.
The event, aimed at raising funds for the construction of a classroom block consisting of three classes, garnered an impressive contribution of 10,400,000 shillings in cash, along with several pledges. Venerable Kanyonyi emphasized the importance of selfless leadership and urged leaders to personally inspect and understand the needs of the communities they serve rather than delegating such duties.
He also expressed optimism that the new building will enhance education in the area, combat ignorance, and help nurture future leaders. He encouraged parents not to give up, stressing that education remains a key tool in transforming communities.
The Headteacher of Kigiro Primary School, Hosea Barigye, expressed gratitude to the staff, parents, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support. He assured the gathering that the funds raised would be put to proper use to ensure the successful completion of the building for the benefit of the pupils.
Tindimwebwa Gerald, representing Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo, an aspirant for Rukungiri District Woman MP seat, praised the commitment of parents to the development of their school and cautioned against divisive politics during election seasons.
The Guest of Honor, Mujuni Lawrence Mpitsi, aspiring NRM flag bearer for Rubabo County, also pledged to prioritize education in his manifesto. He urged parents to plan for the long-term educational needs of their families and committed to working towards a stronger education sector in Rukungiri District.
