Southwest umbrella for water and sanitation under the ministry of water and environment funded by the government of Uganda with support from the world bank has started the implementation of the shs 2.5 bn= water project aimed at improving the welfare of the communities and tourism including Batwa community in Kisoro district.
This was revealed by the manager of the southwest umbrella for water and sanitation Mugumya Robert at the launch of the construction of Rubuguri water supply system in Rubuguri town council in Bukimbiri county Kisoro district.
He clarified that the project scope of work will include laying of transmission and distribution pipes for 25 km, construction of a water pump and reservoir tank, and installation of a solar system.
Presiding over the launch at Rubuguri town council, RDC Kisoro Shafik Ssekandi said Rubuguri which is located near Bwindi national park attracts tourists and yet faces challenges of access to safe water which stands at 48 percent compared to the national safe water coverage estimated at 75 percent.
The member of Parliament Bufumbira south Alex Niyonsaba thanked the southwest umbrella for water and sanitation for upgrading the Jinja water source to cater to community needs and also for the animals.
He advised the management of the project to provide level gauges on every water tank to show quantities of water in the tanks, protecting the water sources and ensure that the water that is available is able to sustain the communities.
