The wife of the deceased businessman, Apollo Nyegamehe also known as Aponye has asked the public not to believe any claims from any member of the society that her late husband had children that are not known to the family.
Vangi Nyegamehe, while speaking during the requiem mass of the fallen businessman at St.Luke Catholic church Muhanga revealed that the deceased tied the knot with her on November 11, 1978, and together, they were blessed with seven children. Additionally, Aponye had another family with the late Monica Kakwezi Nyegamehe, with whom he had five children.
She revealed that following her husband’s passing, an individual known as Bruce Kayubu has come forward claiming to be his child. This has disrupted their family’s peace, and she sternly warned this person to cease such behavior, as it is causing turmoil.
Vangi emphasized that her husband had always maintained that he did not have any children outside their established families.
She fondly remembered her late husband as a hardworking and affectionate man who prioritized the well-being of his family, friends, and the wider community.
During the mass, Reverend Father John Byamukama, the parish priest of Bukinda Catholic Parish, commended the late Nyegamahe for his tireless efforts in supporting the Catholic Diocese of Kabale, particularly his involvement in the construction of St Luke Catholic Church in Muhanga Parish. Rev Fr Byamukama further encouraged Christians to emulate Nyegamahe’s dedicated work ethic and advised against the current trend among youth of pursuing white-collar jobs, as this has resulted in widespread unemployment.
Honorable Caroline Kamusime, the Woman MP for Rukiga District, paid tribute to the late Aponye, hailing him as a pillar of strength in the district. She acknowledged his notable contributions to various religious groups within the district, his efforts in enhancing the local business environment, and his instrumental role in upholding the National Resistance Movement’s reputation in the area.
Apollo Nyegamahe popularly known as Aponye was born on 12th August 1957 in Muhanga Rukiga District to the late Mr. Peter Turikyarukye and late Salome Kibatenga.
They were born with 16 children and now four are surviving namely George Bazongoza, Nzaniya Tibanyenda, Roy Kashuro, and Asiimwe Judith. Aponye was the last born and never got to see his father who passed on before he was born.
Aponye started a business at the tender age of 10yrs doing casual jobs and selling roasted G.Nuts, peas, and Maize in Muhanga to sustain himself having been born an orphan.
At the age of 16yrs, he got a job to work for famous businessman Kirasha Jonathan who was trading in merchandise with Rwanda Businessmen with the duty to carry the goods.
He established a business in Kampala and stayed at Mengo where he accommodated several other businessmen from Kabale and Kigali.
In 1989, he formally registered a limited company “Aponye (U) Ltd, coined from his name “Apollo Nyegamahe” to deal in grain trading. He opened stores in FIBA ( Foods and beverages) industrial area to dry and clean grain.
He expanded grain trading to markets like the world food program with the vision to be the largest trading company in the grain sector.
He established a grain processing plant in Nalukolongo Kampala in 2005, Kyazanga Factory 2010and now Mubende Factory in 2015.
In 2008 he expanded the business to trade with the South Sudan Government in Juba dealing in food stuffs.
He also did real estate in Kampala starting with Aponye Hotel, Aponye City Mall, and Now Aponye Complex Ntinda
The late Apollo Nyegamehe will tomorrow be laid to rest in his home in Muhanga, Rukiga District.
