Fred Mucunguzi, the LC5 Councillor for the Eastern Division in Rukungiri Municipality, has urged youth to work hard and initiate income-generating projects to support themselves, especially given the current economic challenges.

He made these remarks on Saturday during the 12th graduation ceremony of the United College of Business Studies, held in Rwakabengo Ward, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

Mucunguzi emphasized that many young people, after completing their studies, can start their ventures, particularly in agriculture, while they continue to seek jobs related to their qualifications. He noted that job opportunities in Uganda are limited, so the youth need to work diligently to sustain their livelihoods. He also condemned negative behaviors such as gambling, alcoholism, premarital sex, adultery, and drug abuse, warning that these habits can jeopardize the future of many young people.

Dick Katusiime, the proprietor of United College of Business Studies in Rwakabengo, shared that the institution was established in 1992, and since then, 3,867 Ugandans have studied there and obtained education. During yesterday’s ceremony, 112 Ugandans graduated after completing various courses at the institution.

However, Katusiime revealed that the college faces several challenges, including a lack of sufficient water, which affects the institution’s daily operations. He also highlighted the issue of parents being non-compliant in paying school fees and supporting the school. Additionally, he noted that many of the students enrolled at the college come from underprivileged backgrounds, making it challenging to ensure their academic success.

Boaz Matiita, the bursar of Kyamakanda Secondary School and an aspiring candidate for the Rukungiri Municipal Mayoral seat in 2026, urged the graduates to prioritize discipline and obedience as they enter the workforce. He advised them to respect their superiors and clients to succeed in their professional lives.
