Religious leaders, both active and retired, have been urged to embrace humility as a key virtue in fostering a strong and cordial relationship with the Christian communities they serve.

This call was made by the North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, during the installation ceremony of Venerable Erasmus Barangirana as the head of Bugangari Archdeaconry at Bugangari Archdeaconry Church of Uganda.

Addressing a large congregation that gathered to witness the event, Bishop Asiimwe emphasized the importance of humility among church leaders. He noted that humility enables leaders to share challenges with their congregations openly and without fear. He reminded them that Christians are a flock entrusted to their care by God, urging them to uphold biblical teachings in their leadership.

The Bishop also cautioned church leaders against engaging in divisive politics, advising them instead to preach love and unity. He warned that some religious leaders stray from church values, fostering division rather than harmony within the congregation. Additionally, he expressed concern over social issues such as alcoholism among men and parental negligence, which he said contribute to domestic violence and family breakdowns.

Boaz Kwesiga Rutera, the head of laity at Bugangari Archdeaconry, commended the North Kigezi Diocese for appointing Venerable Erasmus to the position. He called on Christians to support the new archdeacon in his ministry, emphasizing that their cooperation would strengthen pastoral service and enhance church activities.

Speaking at the same event, Annet Niwagaba Tumuramye, a hopeful candidate for the Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament seat, praised Bishop Asiimwe for consistently advocating love and unity rather than engaging in divisive politics. She emphasized that while politics and elections are temporary, true friendship and unity among communities should endure.

In his remarks, Venerable Erasmus Barangirana expressed gratitude to God for the milestone and the opportunity to serve. He pledged his commitment to his new role, promising to pray for the sick, preach the gospel, promote unity among Christians, and teach biblical principles.
