Rukungiri District Police have reported a fatal road accident that claimed the life of one person and left several others injured.
The accident occurred on 19th August 2025 at around 2:00 a.m. at Mironzi I Cell, Bikurungu Town Council. A green motor vehicle (Reg. No. H4DF 2476), driven by an unidentified UPDF soldier, reportedly overturned after its front passenger-side tire slipped off the narrow road.
The deceased has been identified as Zefaniya Ssekikayi, a male adult and resident of Kisenyi in Nakasongola Town Council. Other victims included UPDF officers and civilians, all of whom were traveling from Nakasongola for the burial of fallen soldier Staff/Sgt Twebaze Benard.
The injured were rushed to Nyakibale Hospital for treatment. Police visited and documented the scene, recorded statements, and towed the vehicle to the police yard pending inspection.
ASP Maate Elly, PRO Kigezi, noted that preliminary investigations indicate the accident was caused by bad weather and the narrow, hazardous road. Inquiries are ongoing.
