In celebration of the 43rd anniversary of Tarehe Sita, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) collaborated with sister security agencies, local leaders, and Ghetto youth in Kabale District to conduct a joint effort aimed at cleaning various locations in Kabale town.

The initiative, led by Maj. Godfrey Demoi Otim, the Commander of the 31st Battalion, and supported by Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma and Kigezi Regional Police Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Saiga, focused on key areas including Kabale Central Market, Owino Market, and Kamukira Health Center IV in the southern division of Kabale Municipality.

Expressing gratitude for the support received during the NRM’s people’s war, RDC Nyakahuma emphasized that the UPDF’s involvement in the cleaning initiative was a gesture of appreciation. He reaffirmed the UPDF’s dedication to ensuring the common security of Ugandans and highlighted the positive relationship with citizens.

Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha commended the consistent collaboration between the UPDF, sister agencies, and the municipality in commemorating Tarehe Sita through town cleaning activities. He encouraged the public to join hands with the UPDF in such initiatives. Chairman Sam Arinaitwe of Kabale Municipality Central Division LC3 emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the market and drainage channels.

Musa Asiimwe, the president of Ghetto youth in Kigezi sub-region, underscored the significance of Tarehe Sita celebrations in fostering cooperation between Ghetto youth and security agencies to combat criminality in the area.

Tarehe Sita, marking the ‘sixth day of the month’ in Kiswahili, commemorates the audacious attack on Kabamba barracks by National Resistance Army (NRA) rebels in Mubende district on February 6, 1981. The 43rd Tarehe Sita Anniversary is scheduled to take place in Buyende District within the Busoga Sub-region, with a focus on the theme “Celebrating people’s struggle for unity, security, and peace for socio-economic transformation.”
