The handover ceremony took place on Thursday at Makobole High School in North Kigezi Diocese, where UPDF contractors officially handed over the renovated school premises to the administration. The project, valued at UGX 1.4 billion, aimed to improve the school’s infrastructure.

Arineitwe Gad Gakibayo, the head teacher, expressed his gratitude to UPDF contractors and North Kigezi Bishop Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, saying, thank you for your continuous prayers and support for the school’s development. He highlighted the remarkable increase in student enrollment from 130 students last year to 693 students currently.

Gakibayo also commended the smooth running of academic programs and urged both the school management and student leaders to take responsibility for safeguarding school property and infrastructure.

Capt. Yunus Ntegeka, the Western Regional Construction Project Manager, reaffirmed UPDF’s commitment to delivering high-quality and timely government projects. He assured the audience that the renovation, which consumed UGX 1.4 billion, was carried out with excellence.

He further extended appreciation to the Commander-in-Chief, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, fellow contractors, and the government for enabling the project’s successful completion.

Rukungiri Municipality Mayor Charles Makuru praised the rehabilitation efforts and acknowledged the role of the school’s Old Boys, particularly those from Kampala, in supporting the project.

He also lauded the professionalism of UPDF under the leadership of Afande Ntegeka, ensuring the project’s high-quality standards. Additionally, he commended the RDC for maintaining law and order in the district without incidents of teargas or soldier brutality.

Makuru urged students to uphold discipline, emphasizing that they are the future leaders of the nation.

As the guest of honor, Rukungiri RDC Steven Bewayo Nsubuga applauded UPDF for its renovation efforts and appreciated the cooperation between the school administration and Rukungiri municipal leaders.

He called for greater mobilization to support boys’ education, noting that boys are currently less favored compared to girls in Uganda. He also encouraged the student council to take responsibility for maintaining the newly renovated infrastructure while remaining focused on academics.

The UPDF Construction Project completed the following improvements:

  • Construction of two new toilets (one for staff and one for students).
  • Renovation of the staff room and head teacher’s office.
  • Upgrades to school dormitories.

With these developments, Makobole High School is set for a brighter future with improved learning conditions.
