The former Rukungiri District Chairperson LC5, Mr. Andrewson Charles Katebire, has urged the public to rely on community-based financial institutions for access to low-interest and profitable loans.

He made the appeal on Thursday, March 20, 2025, while officiating at the 4th Annual General Meeting of Rubabo Boda Boda Emyooga SACCO, held at Nyarushanje Sub-County headquarters.

Katebire acknowledged the steady progress of Rubabo Boda Boda Emyooga SACCO and emphasized the importance of community-initiated financial institutions in providing affordable loans and seed capital.

Ms. Atuhaire Caroline, the Acting Rukungiri District Commercial Officer, praised the SACCO’s swift growth, attributing it to good leadership. She encouraged Boda Boda riders to prioritize savings and invest in homestead income-generating projects to secure their financial future.

Musiime Michael, the LC3 Chairperson of Nyarushanje Sub-County, lauded the Boda Boda industry for employing a significant portion of the population. He advocated for financial discipline, self-sustainability, and adherence to traffic regulations to protect riders’ lives and reputations.

Henry Kamugisha, the Nyarushanje Sub-County Chief, expressed gratitude for the development driven by Rubabo Boda Boda Emyooga SACCO, describing it as a role model in the country. He noted that the SACCO has received visits from other groups nationwide seeking guidance. Kamugisha also urged riders to practice responsible riding to prevent accidents that cause financial losses.

Caleb Begumanya Kabayo, Chairperson of Rubabo Boda Boda Emyooga SACCO and Kigezi Regional Boda Boda Emyooga SACCOs, revealed plans to acquire equipment and recruit technical staff to improve operational standards. He also appealed to the government to sustain SACCO tax exemptions for at least ten more years to support the growth of struggling SACCOs.

This year’s Annual General Meeting featured the Rubabo County Inter-Sub-County Football Tournament, where Buyanja Sub-County won in a penalty shootout, defeating Nyakishenyi Sub-County 6-5 at Nyarushanje Model Playground.
