The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Political Commissar for the 401st Brigade based in Lenga Barracks Ntungamo District Major Steven Byaruhanga has asked members of the public to support UPDF activities because its core role is the welfare of the citizens.
Major Steven Byaruhanga was on Saturday leading officers and Men of the UPDF in a general cleaning exercise at Itojo Hospital and Rubaare Health center 4 organized by UPDF to show solidarity with the locals in preparation for the commemoration of Tarehe Sita on Monday 6th Feb 2023 at Kakyeka stadium Mbarara City.
He noted that 401st brigade has a health center at their barracks that provides treatment and counseling to the general public and the cleaning exercise was to enhance their relations with wanayinchi/locals.
The UPDF officers supported by the hospital medics, Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner office, and Local leaders swept the compound, mopped the hospital floors, collected garbage and planted trees at the facilities.
The Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner Geoffrey Mucunguzi hailed the government of Uganda for nurturing a disciplined army and asked Ugandans to preserve the environment and promote good eating habits to prevent diseases.
The Itojo hospital Administrator Ajuna David revealed that the hospital administration selected Mondays and Fridays as days for compulsory general cleaning which has helped the hospital to maintain hygiene and sanitation and also voiced the need for improved funding
The District Councilor representing Itojo Muhumuza Denis Savimbi expressed gratitude saying that their tremendous work was a mark of healthy co-existence with the locals.
