Universities have been advised to actively address community challenges by integrating local needs into their curricula and engaging in research that directly benefits surrounding populations.
The Principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Prof. Moses Muhwezi, emphasized the importance of equipping students with critical thinking skills to help them become more effective learners.
He explained that incorporating critical thinking into skills development prepares students to better solve challenges by leveraging opportunities within their communities.
Prof. Muhwezi made these remarks during the inauguration and installation ceremony of Prof. Richard Atusiimire as the new head of the MUBS Mbarara campus, held at Kamukuzi in Mbarara.
In his inaugural speech, Prof. Atusiimire pledged to transform the institution into a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving.
He succeeds Prof. Pontius Byarugaba, who led the campus for a decade.
