Nyarushanje Subcounty councilors have been urged to sensitize the public on the dangers of harboring the mountains to avoid flooding and to educate children against gambling, which is promoting theft in the subcounty.

These remarks were made during the passing of their 2025/2026 budget estimates, where they are looking forward to constructing a two-stance lined latrine at Karama Market in Bunono Parish, installing culvert crossings at selected places, constructing a two-stance lined latrine at Bwanga Market, among other projects, with a grand total proposed budget of 245,183,021 shillings.

Chairperson LC3 Nyarushanje Subcounty, Micheal Musiime, speaking on the same, highlighted the challenge of limited funds to work on all the programs in the subcounty, such as roads and bridges. He said the government should increase the funds to at least 1 billion shillings to enable proper planning for the people in the subcounty.

He further called upon the councilors and all leaders in the subcounty to be vigilant and teach people to work hard and develop their families. He emphasized the importance of taking children to school to reduce cases of theft, saying that uneducated children are mostly the culprits.

Alex Tumwesigye, Speaker of Nyarushanje Subcounty, urged councilors to put into practice whatever they have agreed upon and teach the community about their responsibilities, urging stakeholders to do their part to ensure that the proposed budget is implemented.

He also highlighted the issue of theft, saying people should work hard to earn a living rather than resorting to stealing. He called upon the OC and his team to organize baraza programs to teach people to work and avoid mob justice, as well as to tighten security.

Nicholas Ainebyoona, Youth Councilor of Nyarushanje Subcounty, approved the budget, saying it will benefit the people of Nyarushanje, especially through the rehabilitation of roads.

He also emphasized the issue of land degradation, saying they will carry out sensitization among residents to grow trees as a way of preventing floods that destroy homes, roads, and crops. He urged councilors to lead their people without fear or favor.

Robert Tumushabe, Community Development Officer of Nyarushanje Subcounty, while presenting the five-year Local Government Development Plan (2025/2026–2029/2030), said they are looking forward to eradicating poverty in families by improving education and sports, sensitizing parents to provide school requirements for their children, providing furniture to schools, distributing hybrid seeds to farmers, sensitizing communities on government programs, and empowering women and youth on mindset change, among others.
