Over ten devoted Protestant pilgrims from Kinkiizi Diocese have set up camp at St. Peter’s Cathedral Nyakatare in Kanungu Town Council as they prepare for a long, prayerful walk to Namugongo ahead of Uganda Martyrs Day.

Driven by deep faith and spiritual commitment, the pilgrims were officially received by Bishop Dan Zoreka, who urged them to remain steadfast in prayer and resilient throughout their journey.

Rev. Canon James Kabagambe, the Sub-Dean of the cathedral, advised the group to prioritize safety and maintain discipline during the trek.

Adding to the words of encouragement, Assistant Missioner Solomon Tumukiza expressed hope that their dedication would inspire many more Christians to take bold steps of faith.

Among the church leaders present was Mrs. Kafeero from the Mothers’ Union, who extended her support and blessings to the pilgrims.

Leading the final group is Jastus Byaruhanga, a lay leader from Katiba Church of Uganda in Kyeshero Parish. He noted that the team is fully prepared and spiritually energized to begin their journey from Kanungu to Kampala—on foot.

The pilgrims are set to be officially flagged off early Tuesday morning from St. Peter’s Cathedral, joining thousands of others heading to Namugongo to honor the legacy of the Uganda Martyrs.

Meanwhile, another group of pilgrims who set off from Makiro Parish on May 17th reported this morning that they have reached Karama, at Yesu Ahuriire Catholic Church in Rwampara District.
