Police in Kabale are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified adult male whose decomposing body was discovered on March 10, 2024, around 07:00 am at Kabisha cell in Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district.
On the same day at approximately 09:00 am, information was relayed to Kyanamira Police station by Orikiriza Edward, a 48-year-old male and the chairperson of LC II in Kyanamira parish/sub-county. He reported the discovery of the decomposing body of an unknown adult male hanging inside a house under construction, which belonged to the Catholic Priest of Kyanamira, Rev. Father Austin Christmas.
It is reported that on March 5, 2024, around midnight, Rev. Father Austin Christmas detected a foul smell emanating from the house during his inspection. He instructed the parish catechist, Karemire Silvano, to investigate the source of the odor.
However, the catechist did not act on the instruction until March 10, 2024, when a young boy passing nearby also noticed the smell and insisted on investigating further. Upon entering the house, the boy climbed to the ceiling and discovered the decomposing body hanging from a rope. The catechist was informed, who then notified the LC II and the police.
A suspected suicide report was filed, and the Officer in Charge (OC) of Kyanamira informed the district CID officer, who led a team to the scene.
The area was examined, and the scene was documented. The body was removed from the rope and transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death and to identify the deceased’s relatives.
