UMEME officials have stated that the power outage affecting Kabale district will not be resolved until December, regardless of any demonstrations by residents.
This announcement was made today during a UMEME stakeholders’ engagement meeting at Cephas Inn Hotel in Makanga, Kabale Municipality, by Ian Namanya, the Kabale UMEME Branch Manager. The statement comes ahead of a planned demonstration on August 9, 2024, dubbed “March to UMEME Office Kabale,” organized to protest the ongoing power outages impacting the district.
Namanya explained that the issue would persist until the new Kabale substation, under construction in Karukara, Hamurwa Town Council, Rubanda District, is completed in December. He assured residents that once the substation is operational, the problem will be resolved permanently and requested their patience until then.
Peter Kaujju, UMEME’s Senior Communications Officer, acknowledged the vital role of electricity in the community and its impact on residents’ livelihoods. He assured that UMEME is committed to addressing the issue to the best of their ability once the new substation is operational.
