A journalist from the Uganda Radio Network is currently recovering from injuries sustained in an assault by unidentified assailants last night in Kabale District.
Samuel Amanya, the Chief Bureau Officer of Uganda Radio Network in Kigezi Sub-region, recounted the frightening ordeal. He described how, around midnight, he was accosted by a thug wielding a machete as he tried to enter his residence in Kabale Municipality.
Despite suffering multiple cuts, Amanya managed to fend off the attacker by raising an alarm. The assailant fled the scene without taking anything, leaving Amanya injured and shaken. He was quickly taken to Dr. Ruhemurana Clinic in Kabale Municipality for medical treatment.
In response to the incident, Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Honorable Dr. Nicholas Kamara, condemned the assault, attributing it to governance issues. He stressed the urgent need for improved intelligence-gathering and community policing efforts to address the increasing criminal activity in the area.
However, Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi Region Police, sought to reassure the public, stating that there is no need for panic. He assured that individual cases are thoroughly investigated by the authorities once reported. Maate advised against traveling alone and recommended avoiding poorly lit areas at night.
The case has been filed at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number SD REF29/02/04/2024.
