The Kabale territorial police, under the leadership of District Police Commander SP Joseph Bakaleke, conducted intelligence-driven operations to apprehend several suspected criminals who had been causing fear among residents in various divisions of Kabale municipality.
One of those apprehended is Solomon Musinguzi Erias, also known as Solo, from Karugashi cell, Butobere ward, Central division. He was captured at Bombokya Entertainment Center on 22/03/2024, along with others who are currently at large. They are accused of assaulting and robbing Stella Komujuni, a businesswoman in the municipality, on 19/03/2024 around 20:00 hours. Komujuni suffered injuries and lost valuable items including a Samsung Galaxy A50 smartphone valued at 1.5 million UGX, a power bank, 10,000 UGX in cash, and a set of keys. Komujuni received medical treatment at Bethel Surgery Clinic Kigongi for several days. Solo, described as a notorious gang leader, will face charges of aggravated robbery under Kabale CRB 281/2024.
Additionally, 21 other individuals have been detained, including Martin Ainamani, Brian Niwagaba, Ivan Kata, Joab Musinguzi, Erias Nasasira, Hillary Tumwehe, Yowasi Akandinda, and Onesimus Oyinembabazi, among others. They were apprehended around the Rufura area and near the main stadium on 02/04/2024 around 14:30 hours while sleeping during the day. Some of them were found in possession of opium, tools for breaking into premises, and suspected stolen items such as ATM cards, phones, and electronic devices. Furthermore, they lacked personal identification documents and were unable to provide a legitimate account of their activities.
The police emphasize that such operations will persist to eliminate suspected criminal elements from Kabale municipality and the surrounding region until safety is restored. Citizens are urged to promptly report any incidents to law enforcement agencies rather than assuming that authorities are already aware of such occurrences.
