The territorial police in Kigezi region are investigating two separate murder incidents that occurred on the night of July 24, 2025, in Kanungu and Rukiga districts respectively.
In Kanungu district, police are probing the mysterious death of Turyashemererwa Esau, a 50-year-old cattle trader and resident of Rutoro cell, Rutugunda parish in Kirima sub-county. Preliminary reports indicate that a domestic dispute erupted between the deceased and his wife, Asiimwe Annette, after she reportedly declined to serve him alcohol from their shop/bar around 11:00 PM. In anger, Esau allegedly hit his wife on the head with a stone.
Moments later, a neighbor identified as Sunday Eric responded to an alarm and found Esau unconscious in the living room with blood coming from his mouth. He was rushed to Katate Health Centre IV, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The scene was processed by police, a postmortem was conducted, and both the wife and their daughter were taken into custody to assist in investigations.
In a separate case in Rukiga district, police are investigating the brutal murder of Medius Kendegye, a 62-year-old resident of Kamuha village, Kibanda parish, Kamwezi sub-county. Unknown assailants allegedly broke into her home at night, dragged her from her bed, and hacked her multiple times on the head with a panga, killing her instantly.
Swift response from Kamwezi Police Station, in collaboration with the Canine Unit from Kabale, led to the arrest of Byamukama Simon Peter and two others, who are currently in custody to aid ongoing inquiries.
Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed both incidents and stated that investigations are actively ongoing in both cases to ensure justice is served.
