Boda Boda riders from Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District have today launched a SACCO named Buyanja Sub-county and Town Council Boda Boda Riders SACCO, which will help improve their standards of living through savings and borrowing.

It is revealed that this SACCO will help improve the standards of living of 2,680 members in 56 stages in Buyanja Sub-county and Town Council.

Julius Tumusiime, the Chairperson of Boda Boda Riders in Buyanja Sub-county and Town Council, expressed his gratitude for the unity and cooperation among fellow Boda Boda riders, which has led to the launch of their SACCO. He said they hope it will uplift their standards of living.

Furthermore, he highlighted some of the achievements of the SACCO, including the acquisition of tents, chairs, and contributions during different occasions. However, despite these achievements, they are still facing challenges such as poor roads, which have continued to claim the lives of their colleagues, and the high fuel prices which have affected their earnings.

Tumusiime also stated that as a Boda Boda group, they have started this SACCO with UGX 6 million and are requesting support from well-wishers.

Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the LC3 Chairperson of Buyanja Sub-county and also a member of the Boda Boda riders, appreciated his fellow riders for their support. He advised them to start side hustles instead of relying solely on riding so that in case of emergencies, they have alternative sources of income. He also urged them to have role models and set personal goals that will elevate them beyond just riding Boda Bodas.

Honourable Namanya Naboth, the Member of Parliament for Rubabo County, who was the guest of honor at the function, appreciated Boda Boda riders for their great contribution across the country. He noted that they not only transport people but also support various businesses and contribute to government revenue through taxes, especially by buying fuel and other necessities.

He, therefore, promised full support by ensuring that the roads are maintained in good condition to support their hustle and contribute to their development and that of their areas.
