Two male juveniles are currently in custody at Kinyamaseke Police Station in Bwera Division, Kasese District, after being charged with the theft of a pig valued at UGX 200,000.
The suspects, identified as Masereka Simon, 16, and Bwambale Ezra, 15, both residents of Kanyatsi East Cell in Mailo Kumi Ward, Kinyamaseke Town Council, were arrested following a police operation prompted by a report from the pig’s owner.
According to reports from the police, the stolen pig, weighing approximately 15 kilograms, belonged to Agaba Charles, a resident of Musomoro North Cell in the same town council. Upon discovering the theft, Agaba reported the matter to the local council, which immediately alerted police.
A trained police dog was deployed to the scene and played a crucial role in tracking down the suspects, leading to their subsequent arrest.
Police have urged the public to remain alert, noting a growing trend in livestock theft in the region.
In a related incident, on March 7, 2025, police in Kizungu, Kasese Municipality, arrested a suspect identified as Muhindo Moses. He is accused of stealing over 20 goats in Umoja Cell, Nyamwamba West Division.
As the Easter festive season approaches, law enforcement authorities are appealing to residents across Kasese District to remain vigilant and safeguard their animals. Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to local authorities in a bid to curb the rising cases of livestock theft in the region.
