Police in Rubirizi are investigating a tragic accident that occurred on April 5th, 2025, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The incident took place at approximately 7:40 AM along the Ishaka-Kasese road in Nkembe.
According to Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, the accident involved a red Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFG 032Z, which was traveling from Ishaka towards Kasese. The motorcycle, which was reportedly without functioning headlights, struck the pedestrian as they attempted to cross the road. The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Yowasi Barugahare, a resident of Nkombe II in Rutoto Sub County, Rubirizi District.
Tumusiime confirmed that Barugahare died on the spot due to the impact. The motorcycle rider, whose identity remains unknown, was severely injured and was promptly rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by reckless driving, with police continuing their inquiries. The body of the deceased has been transferred to Rugazi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have urged road users to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations to prevent such tragic accidents. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
