Parents, teachers, local leaders, and alumni of Kacerere Primary School in Kacere Town Council, Rubanda District, today convened for a well-attended PTA General Meeting aimed at electing a new Board Committee and discussing urgent priorities for the school’s revival and development.
The meeting, held at the school premises, attracted a large turnout of stakeholders who deliberated on strategies to improve academic performance, co-curricular activities, and the general welfare of the school. During the gathering, members elected a new PTA Board Committee that will steer the school’s activities for the coming term.
Among the key resolutions passed was a plan to organize a major fundraising and reunion ceremony scheduled for 19th July 2026. The funds collected will be used to purchase a new brass band for the school and renovate old classroom blocks that have deteriorated over the years.
Speaking to Boona FM shortly after the meeting, the newly elected PTA Committee Chairperson said the decision to organize the fundraising drive was unanimously agreed upon by parents and stakeholders. He noted that reviving the school’s music program and improving infrastructure had emerged as top priorities for the community.
The chairperson further revealed that the initiative had received strong support from the Archdeacon of Kacerere Archdeaconry, Ven. Edward Mwesigwa, an old boy of the school. He explained that restoring the school band would not only promote music but also revive the cultural and ceremonial traditions that once defined Kacerere Primary School before they faded due to limited resources.
Kacerere Town Council Mayor Eliab Mugambagye, who is also an alumnus of the school, commended the resolutions made during the meeting, describing them as timely and necessary for restoring the institution’s former glory.
Speaking to Boona FM, Mayor Mugambagye recalled that Kacerere Primary School was once renowned across Rubanda District for excellence in academics, sports, athletics, drama, and other co-curricular competitions. He said the renewed commitment by parents and stakeholders, inspired by the leadership of Ven. Edward Mwesigwa, reflects the community’s determination to restore the school’s lost legacy.
The mayor added that the focus on talent development through music, drama, sports, and improved academics would position the school to compete favorably with other institutions in the district.
In his remarks, the Archdeacon of Kacerere Archdeaconry in Kigezi Diocese, Ven. Edward Mwesigwa, pledged his full support toward the revival of the school. He urged parents and the wider community to prioritize the purchase of a new brass band, saying it would help learners nurture their musical talents and participate in regional and national competitions.
Ven. Mwesigwa also emphasized the need to renovate classroom blocks in order to provide a better learning environment for both pupils and teachers. Reflecting on his time at the school more than two decades ago, he recalled how Kacerere Primary School consistently excelled in academics, sports, athletics, and drama.
He expressed concern over the decline of that once-proud legacy but voiced optimism that the current efforts would help restore the spirit of excellence that the school was known for.
To strengthen the initiative, Ven. Mwesigwa called upon all former students of Kacerere Primary School to attend the planned reunion and fundraising ceremony on 19th July 2026 at the school grounds. He appealed to alumni both within Uganda and in the diaspora to contribute financially and morally toward rebuilding and restoring the historic status of their former school.
