Police in Rukungiri is holding two suspects for allegedly, strangling 88-year-old Wilson Kabarande to death.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesman identified the suspects in custody as Tindizira Kellen 63 wife to the deceased and resident of Kiguha cell, Kahoko parish, Nyakageme sub county, in Rukungiri district and Akatwijuka Sheila, 18, a tailor, resident of the same address and granddaughter to the deceased.
Maate explains that on 27/09/2022, at around 01:37AM the wife of the deceased one Tindizira Kellen, reported a case of suicide by hanging at Rwerere police post.
She stated that her husband, has been sick, and that on 26.09.22 at around 9:00AM, he moved outside with a bed sheet and that he was going to rest outside after complaining of too much heat in the house.
She further stated that she went to check on him outside the house but found him already dead under a guava tree where she claimed he had hanged himself with a bed sheet.
Maate says when police visited the scene, it was doubtable that the deceased had committed suicide because the neck was not stiff and the body was in kneeling position, while the guava tree was too young, small, and not bent nor was it broken.
The suspicion forced police to arrest the two for questioning.
The body was taken to Rwakabengo health Centre iii for post mortem and inquiries are ongoing
