The territorial police in Rukungiri have arrested two suspects and are searching for others in connection with the assault and subsequent death of 62-year-old Christine Tusimomwe.
The suspects, Twinobusingye Monica and Kwesiga Jackson, are residents of Rugunda Cell, Nyakinengo Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
It is reported that Tumwebaze Benedicto and his wife, Twinobusingye Monica, had been having domestic issues for seven years. They had been sleeping in separate rooms within the same house. This situation led Tumwebaze Benedicto to start a relationship with Christine Tusimomwe.
On May 24, 2024, at around 8:00 PM, Benedicto invited Christine to his home. While the two were in the bedroom, Monica, her son Mugarura Gilbert, Kwesiga Jackson, and another unknown individual attacked them around 9:00 PM, armed with sticks and iron bars. They severely assaulted Christine and then fled, leaving both Benedicto and the injured Christine at the scene. Benedicto called a boda boda rider to take Christine to Kasoroza People’s Clinic, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following this, Benedicto reported the incident to Nyakagyeme Police Station. A case of murder was registered, and the crime scene was examined and documented. The two suspects were arrested, and a postmortem was conducted.
Investigations are ongoing.
